Hair care tips for guys

While gals may fuss over their makeup to get that trendy look for making fashion and style statements, guys know that for them, hair is the mane event.

When it comes to grooming and getting a certain look, hair plays an important role for guys. A haircut can make a fashion statement and say whom you are. These days, the key to that up-to-date look for guys is ‘control’. And there are several ways to achieve this.

Cut
Short hair is in favor these days. Even Brad Pitt cut his goldilocks. That’s because short hair is manageable and doesn’t take forever to groom. For a versatile cut you can control, have the sides short and maybe a short fringe at the front so you can style it to achieve various looks.

Gel
You can style wet or dry and it’s great for control. You can slick back hair or use gel to style hair in whichever way you want it to go. Great for straight and short hair. It may be too heavy for long hair as it weighs it down though you can use it to slick back a neat ponytail.

Mousse
This gives you volume and is great for curly hair. You can achieve a messed-up au naturel look, but with control. Scrunch you hair all over and blow-dry for volume.

Pomades and waxes
These are heavy duty as they are used for slicking hair down. They give a nice, sheen to hair and you can be sure every strand of hair will be plastered in place.

Temporary color
For those crazy nights out or a special event, you can get pots of temporary color and apply it to the tips of your hair for a fun look. These shampoo off after one wash and do not permanently color hair. Good for a quick fix for a party, if you want to get noticed.

Hair care

If you care for your hair properly, you will be rewarded with a head of crowning glory, an asset that will be the envy of others.

· A regular shampoo washes the grime and sweat accumulated throughout the day. By giving your scalp a healthy massage with your fingertips while shampooing, you can also improve blood circulation to the scalp, thereby ensuring healthy hair growth.

· After a shampoo, you can add shine and soften your hair with conditioner. Bear in mind that you should put conditioner at the tips of the hair. Don’t massage conditioner into your scalp as it may clog up the pores there and create more problems later on. If hair is very short, you can skip the conditioner.

· When washing off after shampooing or conditioning, make sure you don’t leave any residue behind as this can irritate your skin and clog up pores. Rinse thoroughly.

· Washing too often can strip your hair of its natural protective oils and create dry ends. Squeaky hair does not mean healthy hair.

· If you use a lot of styling products like gels and mousses, make sure you try to shampoo each night, so that you get rid of all that gunk in your hair. Don’t allow it to sit and irritate your skin.

· Not washing enough means the natural oils secreted from the pores get clogged up, encouraging bacterial proliferation and thus causing problems like dandruff.
